Just like they gave to the government of Nigeria for their complicity. When are we going to stop these corporations from committing these offenses in the first place. All Royal Dutch Shell and all the other consciousless corporations who victimize people and the environment do is factor the payoff (settlement) into their balance sheets. Ken Saro-Wiwa is still gone and the others falsely convicted under those charges. And all the while, Shell sat back and got what they came for, the oil out of the ground. We need to prosecute and jail those in charge and STOP this conduct. America do your part and dramatically reduce the dependence on foreign oil. Support the Pickens Plan. At least the natural gas is here and has to be extracted under US rules. It is all well and good that there has been some compensation provided, however, this is merely a payoff. Probably, SHELL was strictly speaking legally not responsible but obviously SHELL should have paid the $ 15,5 million immediately years ago, on the same grounds as now and for its moral responsibility. SHELL acted very unwise and wrong to have protracted so long the settlement. SHELL still has much to improve its corporate social and environmental performance.
